Richard works with adults who are trying to change their lives for the better. He sees clients ages 16 and up, working primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with some Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion Regulation Therapy (ERT) depending on what each client needs.

He helps with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and personality disorders including borderline, obsessive-compulsive, and paranoid personality disorder. (He is not currently taking couples, and does not work with addiction at this time.)

Richard came to therapy after a full first career: he holds several graduate degrees, including a Ph.D., and spent over twenty years in higher education, with a background in leadership theory and business management. He draws on that experience to offer life coaching alongside therapy — helping clients better organize their lives, work through difficult career decisions, and navigate academic choices, including applications to undergraduate and graduate programs.

He believes therapy is a combined effort between therapist and client and regularly checks in with clients about whether his approach is actually working for them. Richard earned his master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Richard has a lot of experience helping people from all walks of life work through difficult issues. He believes that in order to be a good therapist he must rely on the patient to help design effective treatment options. He has experience helping patients that are living with depression and anxiety as well as grief and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He has also treated married and committed couples that are navigating difficult circumstances.

Richard is also a pilot and spends some of his time pursuing aviation related pursuits as well as trying to fix old cars. He builds a lot of flying model airplanes and has ruined a couple of his wife’s dining room tables as a result. Richard and his wife both love animals and have spent many years working with local animal rescue groups.
